Cattery

We have a small, client’s only cattery at our Rappaw Tawa clinic which can house up to 14 cats at any given time. It is mainly used by clients with cats on special diets, medication or whose cat may be elderly and need the special attention being part of a veterinary clinic can provide. But any client can book their cat in for a stay.

The cats in our cattery are checked multiple times a day by our dedicated cattery attendant, and qualified veterinary nurses, and if they have any concerns they will alert the veterinarians in the practice.

We try to make it as much of a “home away from home” as we can in a clinical setting, and try to follow your cats routine. Our cattery has monitored smoke alarms, Feliway diffusers, radio, air conditioning and heating, and is separate from the hospital part of the Tawa clinic.

All cats that wish to stay at our cattery must be up to date with vaccinations (vaccinated yearly), and have up to date flea and worm treatment. If there has been any illness prior to arrival please let our staff know. We can get our veterinarians to examine them for the standard consult fees.

If you wish your cat to stay please contact our Tawa clinic on 04 232 8382 and see if there is a vacancy for the period you are looking at. We charge $25 per night per cat ($28 if diabetic) and supply Royal Canin wet and dry food. If your pet is on a prescription diet we may ask you to supply the food for their stay. If your pet is on medication we ask that you bring that in with you, or we can dispense more at your cost if forgotten.

We will organise an admission appointment with you when your cat is coming in to board, and you are required to fill in an admission form. To save time you can download the Cattery Admission Form, complete in full, and bring it with you when you come to your appointment.

Please note that we are closed on public holidays so will arrange for you to pick your cat up the next business day. We still have staff members coming in to tend to your pets on these days. Christmas bookings are put on to a waitlist and then confirmed in the middle of the year due to the demand/availability.. We prioritise regular boarders, existing clients, and high need cats.
